Christine Aerfeldt is an Australian born visual artist of Estonian heritage who is living between London and Montpellier. She studied at Adelaide Central School of Art and also holds a Masters degree in Fine Art from Chelsea College of Art & Design London. Aerfeldt is the recipient of numerous awards and honours, most notably the 2006 Anne and Gordon Samstag Scholarship for international study, considered to be the most prestigious award of its kind in Australia. For two years running she was named as one of the best emerging artists in South Australia. Her work is held in public and corporate collections, including the Art Gallery of South Australia, Artbank and FH Faulding. She is represented by Helen Gory Galerie in Melbourne, and work can also be seen at Wyer Gallery in London, Adelaide Central Gallery, and Eva Breuer in Sydney. |

News December 2007/January 2008 Aerfeldt’s work is on show as part of the Future Map exhibition from now until the end of this year at the Arts Gallery in Davies Street, London, 100 metres from the Bond Street tube station. The show showcases 22 of the top graduates this year from the six art colleges which comprise The University of the Arts London. Her large painting ‘Her Lady-ness’ was purchased by the well known collector David Roberts who has recently opened Gallery OneOneOne in central London to showcase his collection. The Wyer Gallery in London will be showing Aerfeldt’s work as part of a two person show in September/October 2008 to coincide with the Frieze Art Fair. They also currently have two paintings from her MA show available in their stock room, and work can be viewed on their website BBC TV’s ‘The One Show’ recently featured Aerfeldt’s paintings as part of a segment on Investing in Art. She was one of a handful of artists singled out for attention from the recent Affordable Art Fair held at Battersea Park. October 2007 The noted London art collector Charles Saatchi recently purchased two large paintings by Christine Aerfeldt from her MA exhibition at Chelsea College of Art and Design. To be included in one of the world’s premier art collections is a major coup for the artist. As a result of the exhibition she has also been commissioned to produce a work for the permanent collection of The University of the Arts London, and is one of only 12 UK recent graduates selected to present their work at a special curated section at this month’s Affordable Art Fair to be held at Battersea Park. May 2007 Image featured in London newspaper article “In search of the next big thing” Christine Aerfeldt’s work featured in an article in London’s Evening Standard newspaper on Wednesday May 23. The double page spread introduced artists “worth buying now“, focusing on students about to graduate and also recent graduates who have already made a mark on the local scene. She was the only Chelsea College student included in the report. The article presented an image of a recent painting and some information about her previous exhibitions in Australia. Here is the introduction: “A Rothko bought in 1960 for £4,000 has just sold for £36.4 million. So can you truffle out the artists worth buying now? With the graduate shows kicking off this week, and Kay Saatchi’s Anticipation show launching tonight, Simon Davis introduces this year’s young talent from the colleges. You might just find the next Damien Hirst.” Chelsea College Masters Graduation Exhibition Aerfeldt’s works will be on show at the Chelsea College of Art & Design MA show from September 21 – 23 2007.
